To make it easier to become employed by the County in the Desert we want to offer you some insider tips and suggestions:

Not all positions are posted.  First, there could be a position opening that is just right for you, whether or not you see it currently posted here or on “Hot Jobs” .  If there is a sufficient number of candidates in the Job Match system, the most qualified candidates for a position may be directly contacted by the recruiter see if they are available and interested in an interview, without the position ever being posted on the web or advertised elsewhere.  Therefore, it would be good advice to go ahead and submit your resume to Job Match in order for you to be available to match with jobs that need your particular skills.

Online testing is available (and required) for some positions.  Find out if skills assessment tests are required for jobs you might be interested in pursuing.  A resume will be required in connection with testing and will be entered into Job Match with your score.   We are moving to online testing for some positions, check to see if the position you are applying for has that option. or requirement as in the case of Office Assistant and Accounting Assistant positions.  Test scores will usually be accepted for six months, and then you will need to retest.

Resume is good for 1 year.   Normally, only submit a new resume annually, or when your contact information has changed.  Please avoid submitting a new resume, for every new job announcement you may see on line.  Remember, all positions will not be posted, and gearing you resume for one job may cause you to miss out on others, and your resume may be unavailable for the period of time it administratively takes to replace it with the new version.  But, do remember to update and resubmit your resume annually; you can time this around a specific date that would be easy for you to remember (birthday, anniversary, holiday, etc.).

New way of hiring... If you are invited to a One Day - Hiring Event in the Desert please participate.  Normally, interviews for all position openings, for all departments, will be conducted that day.  All positions of that type may be tentively filled that day, and you would have to wait for the next scheduled event to be interviewed.

Temporary Positions.  Check out Temporary Assignment positions located in the Desert.  A temporary position can introduce you to the work of a County department, give you needed experience, and in some situations lead to a permanent job.

Leave Salary open:  For the broadest position opportunities leave salary requirements open, and simply indicate “any” position.   You will only be contacted regarding positions that need your set of skills and qualifications.  You can decide if you are interested in the particular position, level and salary when contacted.  It is okay to specify the region of the County to which you are interested in being assigned (Desert).  If you don’t already live in the Eastern County, it might help to identify you as an interested candidate for “Desert Jobs”.
