Department of Transportation (DOT) safety-sensitive Positions
Department of Transportation (DOT) Safety-Sensitive Positions
Some County of Riverside positions involve safety-sensitive functions as defined by U.S. Department of Transportation regulations (49 CFR 382.107). The County designates these positions as DOT safety-sensitive. For employment consideration for a position with this designation, a Human Resources Recruiter will review your driving history. Any required documentation will be listed on the job posting and may be provided as part of the job application.
Candidates and employees must meet the following requirements. This list may not include every requirement.
- Provide evidence of meeting the mandated requirements for a Commercial Driver’s License.
- No more than two (2) negligent operator points on your driving record within the past three (3) years.
- No DUI convictions within the past five (5) years.
- No more than one (1) at-fault accident within the past three (3) years.
- No driver’s license suspensions or revocations within the past three (3) years.
- No verified positive DOT drug test within the past three (3) years.
- No DOT alcohol test result of 0.04 or greater within the past three (3) years.
- No refusal to submit to a DOT drug or alcohol test within the past three (3) years.
- Be subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing on a random basis and for reasonable suspicion.
- Provide consent to complete a DOT-mandated drug and alcohol testing records check. Reference checks from former DOT-regulated employers are also required. For former FMCSA-regulated employers, the Clearinghouse query satisfies this check.
Out-of-state applicants: A driving history record equivalent to the California DMV driving history record, from your state of residence for the previous three (3) years, is acceptable. Candidates will be required to obtain a California driver’s license at the time of hire.
