A Student Internship with the County of Riverside can offer a unique, hands-on experience that can complement classroom knowledge and serve as a foundation to launch a successful public service career. Participants can gain real work experience by being responsible for projects in their area of interest while positively impacting the community and residents of the County.

  • The County offers a mixture of paid and unpaid internships depending on the position and budgetary constraints of each sponsoring department
  • All appointments are part-time hourly, and work at the discretion of the appointing authority

  • Unpaid Student Interns must either be high school students or currently enrolled in a Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctoral program at an accredited college or university or training program.
  • Paid Professional Student Interns must either be high school students or recently graduated (within 3 months) or currently enrolled in a Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctoral program at an accredited college or university in a program relevant to the specific internship. Some positions may require current enrollment in an accredited graduate school program. Recent undergraduate or graduate students are eligible to intern for up to one year from their graduation date.
  • Students must have and maintain a cumulative 2.5 minimum GPA to be eligible to be employed as a Student Intern.  Higher GPAs may be required by the hiring department.
  • Students must be legal permanent residents, U.S. Citizens, or Green Card Holders (permit to work). 
  • International students are eligible if an exception has been approved by the Human Resources Director in advance.
  • In addition to the minimum qualifications above, students must meet additional required and desired qualifications depending on the nature of the internship assignment and needs of the assignment department.
  • Exceptions to the above student status requirements, and/or qualification requirements must be reviewed and approved by the Internship Team in advance.

Internship opportunities can be opened at any time for a variety of majors.  When a position becomes available, it is posted on Job Opportunities. Please visit the job board frequently for available opportunities, read the position very carefully, and, if you meet the minimum requirements, follow the application instructions to submit your resume.  

Tips for applying to an internship: 

Prepare a resume with updated contact information, work/internship/volunteer history, cumulative weighted GPA, degree program, expected graduation date, university attending, full- or part-time status in the current and/or upcoming term, and an objective stating that you are interested in an internship and in what areas. Don’t forget to attach an updated unofficial/official transcript to your application.
